Indications:
Ecosprin is indicated for prevention of myocardial infarction, stroke, transient ischemic attacks, and in patients with unstable angina or after certain cardiac procedures to prevent thrombosis.
Pharmacology:
Ecosprin contains Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid), which irreversibly inhibits cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2), leading to decreased formation of thromboxane A2, thereby reducing platelet aggregation and blood clot formation.
Dosage & Administration:
Usual dose: 75 mg once daily, preferably with food to reduce gastric irritation.
Dose may vary according to physician’s prescription.
Interaction:
May interact with anticoagulants, NSAIDs, corticosteroids, and certain antihypertensive drugs. Caution with alcohol and other platelet inhibitors.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to aspirin, active peptic ulcer, bleeding disorders, severe asthma, and children with viral infections (risk of Reye’s syndrome).
Side Effects:
Common side effects include gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, bleeding, and hypersensitivity reactions. Rarely, tinnitus and bronchospasm.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed, especially avoiding in third trimester. Aspirin is excreted in breast milk; use caution when breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for signs of bleeding. Avoid in patients with bleeding disorders or severe liver/kidney disease.
Therapeutic Class:
Antiplatelet agents; Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Storage Conditions:
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
