Description
Electro-K 600 mg, manufactured by ACME Laboratories Ltd., is an oral tablet containing 600 mg of potassium chloride, equivalent to 8 mmol of potassium. It is indicated for the replacement of potassium deficits resulting from conditions such as diuretic-induced hypokalemia, gastrointestinal losses, renal potassium wasting, and hypochloraemic alkalosis associated with hypokalemia. The recommended dosage for adults ranges from 25 to 50 mmol per day, administered in divided doses with meals to minimize gastrointestinal irritation. Common side effects may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal cramps. Electro-K should be used with caution in patients with renal or adrenocortical insufficiency, cardiac disease, acute dehydration, or extensive tissue destruction. It is contraindicated in individuals with hyperkalemia, untreated Addison's disease, or severe renal failure. Patients should be monitored for signs of hyperkalemia, especially during intravenous administration, as rapid infusion can lead to serious cardiac complications.
