Elodep 10 mg, containing escitalopram oxalate, is an SSRI used to treat various mental health conditions, including major depressive disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, panic disorder, and social anxiety disorder. It works by increasing serotonin levels in the brain, which helps improve mood and reduce anxiety. The recommended starting dose is 10 mg once daily, which may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg daily after at least one week, based on individual response. Elderly patients and those with liver impairment may require dose adjustments. Common side effects include nausea, insomnia, fatigue, increased sweating, and sexual dysfunction. Elodep should not be used in combination with MAOIs or within two weeks of discontinuing them. Caution is advised when discontinuing Elodep, as abrupt cessation may lead to withdrawal symptoms. It is also excreted in human breast milk; therefore, its use during breastfeeding should be considered only if the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
