Description
Gliclazide 80 mg is an oral antidiabetic medication belonging to the sulfonylurea class, primarily used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when lifestyle modifications alone are insufficient. It functions by stimulating the pancreas to release insulin, thereby lowering blood glucose levels. The typical starting dose is 40–80 mg daily, taken with the first main meal, and can be increased up to 320 mg per day based on individual response. Gliclazide is contraindicated in individuals with type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal or hepatic impairment, and during breastfeeding. Common side effects include hypoglycemia, nausea, dizziness, and gastrointestinal disturbances. Patients should be cautious when consuming alcohol, as it may affect blood sugar control. Regular monitoring of blood glucose levels is essential during treatment. It is not recommended for use during pregnancy
