Lipitor 20 mg is a prescription medication manufactured by ACME Laboratories Ltd., containing 20 mg of atorvastatin, a member of the HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor class, commonly known as a statin. Atorvastatin works by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase in the liver, which plays a central role in cholesterol production. By reducing cholesterol synthesis, atorvastatin lowers levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and triglycerides, while increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. This dual effect helps prevent the buildup of fatty deposits in blood vessels, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular events such as heart attacks, strokes, and the need for heart surgery.
