FoliHair 1000 mcg is a biotin supplement manufactured by ACME Laboratories Ltd., formulated to support healthy hair, skin, and nails. Biotin, also known as Vitamin H, is a water-soluble B-vitamin that acts as a coenzyme in various metabolic processes, including fatty acid synthesis, amino acid catabolism, and gluconeogenesis. It plays a crucial role in the growth and differentiation of epidermal cells, thereby contributing to the formation and renewal of skin, hair, and nails. Biotin deficiency can lead to symptoms such as hair loss, brittle nails, and skin conditions like eczema and dermatitis. FoliHair 1000 mcg is indicated for the treatment of these conditions. The recommended dosage varies: for adults, an initial dose of 5 mg daily for 4 months is advised, followed by a maintenance dose of 5 mg every 1–7 days, depending on the underlying condition. For children, the dosage is typically 500 mcg/kg daily up to 1 year of age, and the same as the adult dose for those over 1 year. Folic acid is generally well tolerated, with rare occurrences of gastrointestinal disturbances or hypersensitivity reactions. It is contraindicated in patients with a known hypersensitivity to folic acid. Pregnancy Category A indicates no risk to the fetus, and the medication is also considered safe during lactation. However, caution is advised in patients with folate-dependent tumors or those with undiagnosed megaloblastic anemia due to vitamin B12 deficiency, as folic acid supplementation alone may mask symptoms and exacerbate neurological complications. FoliHair should be stored below 30°C in a dry place, away from light, and out of reach of children.
