Indications:
Monas 10 mg is indicated for the treatment of hypertension and to reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and myocardial infarction in patients at risk.
Pharmacology:
Monas contains Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that inhibits the action of angiotensin II on the AT1 receptor, resulting in vasodilation and reduced blood pressure.
Dosage & Administration:
The usual dose is 20-40 mg once daily, but may start at 10 mg in some patients.
Dosage may be adjusted based on patient response and clinical condition.
Can be taken with or without food.
Interaction:
May interact with potassium supplements, diuretics, NSAIDs, and lithium. Monitor potassium levels to avoid hyperkalemia.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Telmisartan, severe hepatic impairment, or pregnancy.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include dizziness, headache, fatigue, and gastrointestinal discomfort. Rarely, hyperkalemia and hypotension may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated during pregnancy (especially second and third trimesters). Use with caution during lactation.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor blood pressure and renal function regularly. Use caution in patients with renal impairment or volume depletion.
