Liptor EZ 20 mg + 10 mg is a combination tablet produced by ACME Laboratories Ltd., designed to manage elevated cholesterol and lipid levels in the blood. It combines two active ingredients: atorvastatin and ezetimibe. Atorvastatin is a statin that works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, an enzyme involved in cholesterol production in the liver, thereby lowering levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol and total cholesterol. Ezetimibe, on the other hand, reduces cholesterol absorption in the small intestine, leading to decreased cholesterol delivery to the liver. This dual-action approach effectively lowers LDL cholesterol, triglycerides, and total cholesterol, while increasing high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol. Liptor EZ is indicated for patients with primary hyperlipidemia (both familial and non-familial) and mixed hyperlipidemia, as well as for those with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia when other treatments are inadequate or unavailable. The typical starting dose is 20 mg of atorvastatin combined with 10 mg of ezetimibe, taken once daily, with or without food. Dosage adjustments may be made based on individual lipid profiles and therapeutic response. Common side effects include muscle pain, liver enzyme abnormalities, abdominal discomfort, and headaches. It is contraindicated in patients with active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in liver enzymes. Regular monitoring of liver function and lipid levels is recommended during treatment. Patients should also be cautious of potential drug interactions, especially with medications that may increase the risk of muscle-related side effects.
