Description
Pizo-A 1.5 mg is a prescription medication manufactured by ACME Laboratories Ltd., containing Pizotifen 1.5 mg. It is primarily used for the prophylactic treatment of recurrent vascular headaches, including classical migraine, common migraine, and cluster headaches.
Mechanism of Action:
Pizotifen acts as a serotonin antagonist, inhibiting the peripheral actions of serotonin and histamine, which are involved in increasing the permeability of cranial blood vessels. By blocking 5-HT receptors, it reduces the frequency and severity of migraine attacks.
Dosage & Administration:

Adults: Usually 1.5 mg daily, taken as a single dose at night or in three divided doses. Dosage may be adjusted up to a maximum of 4.5 mg daily, with a maximum single dose of 3 mg at night.

Children (over 2 years): Up to 1.5 mg daily, usually in divided doses, with a maximum single dose of 1 mg at night.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include drowsiness, increased appetite, weight gain, dry mouth, and dizziness.
