Indications:
LINO-M 850/2.5 mg is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus to improve glycemic control when diet and exercise alone are insufficient.
Pharmacology:
Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and increases insulin sensitivity.
Vildagliptin is a DPP-4 inhibitor that enhances incretin levels, increasing insulin secretion and decreasing glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner.
Dosage:
The usual dose is one tablet twice daily with meals, or as directed by a physician. Dose adjustment may be required based on response and tolerance.
Administration:
Take orally with food to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Swallow tablets whole with water.
Interaction:
May interact with drugs like diuretics, corticosteroids, and other antidiabetic agents. Caution advised with drugs that affect renal function.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with renal impairment, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe hepatic impairment, or hypersensitivity to components.
Side Effects:
Common: Gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, dizziness, nasopharyngitis.
Serious: Lactic acidosis (rare), pancreatitis.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Safety in lactation not well established; consult physician.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor renal function regularly. Discontinue if signs of lactic acidosis or pancreatitis occur. Use cautiously in hepatic impairment.
