Indications:
Used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastric and duodenal ulcers, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and other acid-related disorders.
Pharmacology:
Omeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that blocks the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system in stomach lining cells, reducing acid secretion.
Dosage:
Typically 20 mg once daily before a meal. Dosage may vary depending on the condition and doctor's advice.
Administration:
Swallow capsule whole; do not crush or chew. Take before meals for optimal effect.
Interaction:
May interact with drugs like clopidogrel, warfarin, and certain antifungals. Inform your doctor about all medications.
Contraindications:
Not to be used by patients with known hypersensitivity to omeprazole or other PPIs.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and flatulence. Severe reactions are rare.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a doctor; limited data on safety during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
