Description
Maxima 40 mg is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) manufactured by ACME Laboratories Ltd., containing 40 mg of Esomeprazole Magnesium. Esomeprazole is the S-isomer of omeprazole and works by irreversibly inhibiting the H⁺/K⁺-ATPase enzyme system in gastric parietal cells, leading to a significant reduction in gastric acid secretion. This action provides relief from symptoms and promotes healing in conditions associated with excessive stomach acid production. Maxima 40 mg is indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), healing and maintenance of erosive esophagitis, acid-related dyspepsia, duodenal and gastric ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is also used in combination therapy for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori infection in patients with duodenal ulcer disease. The recommended dosage varies depending on the condition being treated, with typical doses ranging from 20 mg to 40 mg once daily. Common side effects may include headache, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and flatulence. Esomeprazole should be taken at least one hour before meals for optimal absorption.
