Pharmacology:
Astaxanthin is a potent antioxidant that neutralizes free radicals through dual mechanisms: suppressing singlet oxygen and inhibiting lipid peroxidation. It is absorbed by passive diffusion into the intestinal epithelium alongside fatty acids, incorporated into lipoproteins, and transported to the liver. More than 70% of Astaxanthin is contained in high-density lipoprotein (HDL) in plasma, with the highest concentrations found in the small intestine, followed by subcutaneous fat, spleen, liver, heart, kidney, and skin.
Dosage:
2–4 mg daily: For general antioxidant support, cardiovascular health, and immune function.
4–8 mg daily: For skin health, protection against sun damage, and recovery from central nervous system injuries.
