Indications:
EXTRANIL 5 MG Tablet is indicated for the treatment of:
Parkinson’s disease (idiopathic, postencephalitic, arteriosclerotic)
Drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms (e.g., pseudoparkinsonism, acute dystonic reactions, akathisia)
Pharmacology:
Procyclidine hydrochloride is an antimuscarinic antiparkinsonian agent that works by correcting the relative cholinergic excess occurring in parkinsonism due to dopamine deficiency. It helps in reducing tremors, rigidity, and bradykinesia associated with Parkinson’s disease.
Dosage:
Parkinsonism: Start with 2.5 mg three times a day. Gradually increase to 5 mg three times a day and occasionally 5 mg at bedtime. Adjust the dosage as tolerated until reaching a total daily dose of 20 to 30 mg, divided into 3 to 4 doses.
Drug-induced extrapyramidal symptoms: Start with 2.5 mg three times a day. Increase by 2.5 mg per day as needed and tolerated.
Administration:
Take EXTRANIL 5 MG Tablet orally, preferably after meals. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not chew or crush the tablet.
Interaction:
Anticholinergic drugs: Concurrent use may enhance anticholinergic effects.
Cholinergic drugs: May reduce the therapeutic effect.
Ketoconazole: May reduce the absorption and therapeutic effect.
Levodopa: May reduce the efficacy of levodopa.
Contraindications:
Urinary outflow obstruction
Prostatic hypertrophy
Narrow-angle glaucoma
Paralytic ileus and pyloric stenosis

Dry mouth
Blurred vision
Constipation
Nausea
Vomiting
Dizziness
Lightheadedness
High doses may cause:
Confusion
Hallucinations
Muscle weakness
