Teargen Eye Drops is indicated for the prevention and treatment of eye infections and for disinfecting the ocular surface. It is commonly used in conditions such as conjunctivitis and to prevent infections during and after eye surgeries.
Pharmacology:
Povidone Iodine is a broad-spectrum antiseptic that works by releasing iodine, which has antimicrobial activity against a wide range of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi. It provides rapid and sustained antimicrobial action on the ocular surface.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: Apply 1–2 drops in the affected eye(s) 2–4 times daily or as directed by the physician.
Administration: Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid to form a pocket, and instill the prescribed number of drops into the pocket. Close your eyes gently and press the inner corner of the eye to prevent the solution from draining away.
Interaction:
Avoid using other eye medications simultaneously. If multiple eye drops are prescribed, wait at least 5 minutes between applications to prevent dilution and ensure efficacy.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to iodine or any other component of the formulation.
Side Effects:
Temporary blurred vision upon application
Mild burning or stinging sensation
Redness or irritation of the eye
Allergic reactions (rare)
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Lactation: It is not known whether Povidone Iodine is excreted in human milk. Exercise caution when administering to nursing mothers.
Therapeutic Class:
Antiseptic & Disinfectant
Storage Conditions:
Store at room temperature, away from light and moisture. Do not use if the solution becomes discolored or cloudy. Keep out of reach of children.
