Indications:

Dexagen G is indicated for:

  • Blepharitis

  • Scleritis

  • Episcleritis

  • Iritis

  • Cyclitis

  • Iridocyclitis

  • Choroiditis

  • Optic neuritis

  • Chronic anterior uveitis

  • Disciform and interstitial keratitis

  • Allergic corneal marginal ulcers

  • Corneal injury from chemical, radiation, or thermal burns

Pharmacology:

  • Dexamethasone: A corticosteroid that reduces inflammation by inhibiting phospholipase A2, decreasing the synthesis of prostaglandins, and suppressing the migration of leukocytes to the site of inflammation.

  • Gatifloxacin: A fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes responsible for bacterial DNA replication and repair, leading to bacterial cell death.

Dosage:

  • Adults: Instill 1 drop into the affected eye every 2 hours for the first 2 days, then reduce to every 4 hours as the condition improves.

  • Children: Dosage should be determined by a healthcare provider based on the child's condition.

Administration:

  • Wash hands thoroughly before use.

  • Tilt the head back and pull down the lower eyelid to create a pouch.

  • Hold the dropper above the eye and instill the prescribed number of drops.

  • Close the eye gently and press the inner corner to prevent drainage.

  • Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface to prevent contamination.

Interaction:

  • Prolonged use of corticosteroids may increase intraocular pressure.

  • Concurrent use with other ocular medications should be done cautiously to avoid potential interactions.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to Dexamethasone, Gatifloxacin, or any component of the formulation.

  • Active viral infections of the eye (e.g., herpes simplex keratitis).

  • Fungal infections of the eye.

  • Tuberculosis of the eye.

Side Effects:

  • Temporary stinging or burning sensation upon instillation.

  • Increased intraocular pressure with prolonged use.

  • Cataract formation with long-term use.

  • Risk of secondary ocular infections due to immunosuppression.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • Pregnancy: Use during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.

  • Lactation: Caution should be exercised when administered to a nursing mother.

Therapeutic Class:

Storage Conditions:

  • Store in a cool, dry place, away from light.

  • Keep out of reach of children.
