Indications:
SETRA 25 mg is indicated for the treatment of:

Major Depressive Disorder (MDD)
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Panic Disorder
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Social Anxiety Disorder (SAD)
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD)

It is often used as an initial dose in sensitive patients such as the elderly or those prone to side effects.

Pharmacology:
Sertraline is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that enhances serotonergic activity in the central nervous system by blocking the reuptake of serotonin into presynaptic neurons. This results in improved mood, reduced anxiety, and better emotional regulation.

Dosage:

Starting dose: 25 mg once daily, especially for patients with anxiety disorders or sensitivity to SSRIs
Dose may be increased gradually to 50 mg or higher as per clinical response
Maximum dose: Up to 200 mg/day, depending on indication

Administration:
Take orally once daily, with or without food. Preferably taken at the same time each day (morning or evening). Do not stop abruptly—dose reduction should be gradual under medical supervision.

Interaction:

Avoid concurrent use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) due to risk of serotonin syndrome
Caution with anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), NSAIDs, and other serotonergic agents
May interact with CYP450 metabolized drugs (e.g., diazepam, phenytoin)

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to Sertraline or other SSRIs
Concurrent use with pimozide or MAO inhibitors
Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures

Side Effects:

Common: Nausea, headache, dry mouth, insomnia, fatigue
Less common: Sexual dysfunction, appetite changes, sweating
Rare: Hyponatremia, serotonin syndrome, suicidal thoughts (especially in young adults)

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Category C. Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Sertraline is excreted in breast milk; caution advised while breastfeeding.
