Indications:
TIAPINE XR 400 MG is prescribed for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (manic and depressive episodes), and as adjunct therapy for major depressive disorder. It helps control hallucinations, mood swings, and depressive symptoms.
Pharmacology:
Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic that modulates dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain, restoring neurotransmitter balance and reducing psychotic symptoms.
Dosage:
Typical dose starts at 300 mg daily, can be increased to 400 mg or higher depending on the patient’s response and doctor's prescription. Taken once daily, preferably at bedtime.
Administration:
Swallow the extended-release tablet whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or break. Can be taken with or without food.
Interaction:
May interact with CNS depressants, antihypertensive drugs, and medications metabolized by CYP3A4 enzymes. Inform your physician about all medicines you are taking.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients allergic to quetiapine or any tablet component. Use caution in patients with cardiovascular disorders, seizures, or diabetes.
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, weight gain, and orthostatic hypotension. Rare but serious side effects include neuroleptic malignant syndrome and tardive dyskinesia.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if benefits outweigh risks during pregnancy. Breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before use.
