Gliride 1 mg is indicated for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults when diet and exercise alone are insufficient to control blood glucose levels.
Pharmacology:
Gliride 1 mg contains Glimepiride, a second-generation sulfonylurea. It works by stimulating the pancreas to release insulin and increasing the sensitivity of peripheral tissues to insulin, thereby lowering blood glucose levels.
Dosage:
Adults:
Initial dose: 1–2 mg once daily with breakfast or the first main meal.
Maintenance dose: 1–4 mg once daily.
Maximum dose: 6 mg per day.
Elderly: Start with 1 mg once daily.
Renal impairment: 1 mg once daily; adjust dose based on blood glucose levels.
Hepatic impairment: Use with caution; start with a lower dose.
Administration:
Take the tablet orally with sufficient water, immediately before or during the first main meal of the day. Do not skip meals to prevent hypoglycemia.
Interaction:
Alcohol: May potentiate the hypoglycemic effect and increase the risk of lactic acidosis.
Other antidiabetic agents: May enhance the hypoglycemic effect.
Beta-blockers: May mask symptoms of hypoglycemia.
Corticosteroids: May reduce the hypoglycemic effect.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Glimepiride or other sulfonylureas.
Type 1 diabetes mellitus.
Diabetic ketoacidosis.
Severe renal or hepatic impairment.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include:
