Indications:
NEPAGEN 5ML is indicated for:
Treatment of postoperative ocular pain and inflammation, including cataract surgery.
Prevention of postoperative cystoid macular edema (CME).
Pharmacology:
Nepafenac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory prodrug. After instillation in the eye, it penetrates the cornea and is converted by ocular tissue hydrolase to Amfenac, a potent nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Amfenac is thought to inhibit the action of cyclooxygenase enzymes, leading to reduced prostaglandin synthesis and subsequent anti-inflammatory effects.
Dosage & Administration:
For postoperative pain and inflammation: Instill 1 drop 3 times daily, starting 1 day before cataract surgery and continuing on the day of surgery and through the first 2 weeks of the postoperative period.
For prevention of postoperative CME: Instill 1 drop 3 times daily, starting 1 day before surgery and continuing on the day of surgery and through the first 6 weeks of the postoperative period.
Administration:
Shake well before use. Tilt your head back slightly and pull down your lower eyelid to create a small pocket. Hold the dropper above the eye with the tip down. Look up and away from the dropper and squeeze out a drop. Close your eye and gently press your finger to the inside corner of the eye for about 1 minute to keep the liquid from draining into your tear duct.
Interaction:
Avoid using other topical eye medications within 5 minutes of applying NEPAGEN 5ML. Inform your healthcare provider about all other medications you are using.
Contraindications:
Do not use NEPAGEN 5ML if you are allergic to nepafenac or any other NSAIDs.
