Indications:
TIAPINE 200 XR is indicated for the treatment of schizophrenia, bipolar disorder (manic and depressive episodes), and as an adjunct therapy for major depressive disorder. It helps manage hallucinations, mood swings, and depressive symptoms.
Pharmacology:
Quetiapine is an atypical antipsychotic that works by modulating neurotransmitters dopamine and serotonin receptors in the brain. This action helps rebalance chemical messengers, reducing psychotic symptoms and mood instability.
Dosage:
The dose varies depending on the condition treated. For schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, the typical starting dose is 300 mg daily, which can be adjusted by the physician up to 800 mg daily. TIAPINE 200 XR is taken once daily, usually at bedtime.
Administration:
Swallow the extended-release tablet whole with water. Do not crush, chew, or break the tablet. Take with or without food as directed by the doctor.
Interaction:
Quetiapine may interact with CNS depressants, antihypertensives, and medications metabolized by CYP3A4 enzymes. Inform your healthcare provider about all current medications.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to quetiapine or any tablet component. Caution in patients with cardiovascular diseases, history of seizures, or diabetes.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, dry mouth, weight gain, and orthostatic hypotension. Rarely, it can cause serious effects like tardive dyskinesia or neuroleptic malignant syndrome.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Quetiapine passes into breast milk, so breastfeeding mothers should consult their doctor before use.
