Indications:
S Citaparm 10 mg is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder (MDD), generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety disorder, and panic disorder. It helps relieve mood disturbances, persistent sadness, and nervousness.
Pharmacology:
Escitalopram is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It increases the availability of serotonin in the synaptic cleft by inhibiting its reuptake in the central nervous system, thereby enhancing mood and reducing anxiety symptoms.
Dosage:
Adults (MDD/GAD): 10 mg once daily, which may be increased to a maximum of 20 mg per day based on clinical response.
Dosage adjustments may be required in elderly patients or those with liver impairment.
Administration:
Take orally once daily with or without food. Try to take the dose at the same time each day for consistency. Do not abruptly stop taking without consulting a physician.
Interaction:
Escitalopram may interact with other serotonergic drugs (e.g., triptans, MAOIs), NSAIDs, anticoagulants, and other CNS-active agents. Caution is advised due to risk of serotonin syndrome and bleeding.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Escitalopram or any of its components
Concomitant use with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of discontinuing an MAOI
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, insomnia, fatigue, dry mouth, and dizziness. Serious but rare side effects include suicidal thoughts, serotonin syndrome, and QT prolongation. Seek medical help if unusual symptoms occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy should be based on a risk-benefit assessment. It may be present in breast milk; caution is advised during breastfeeding. Always consult a doctor before use.
