Indications:

Cereton 5 mg is indicated for:

  • Dementia and cognitive decline

  • Cerebrovascular disorders, including ischemic stroke and cerebral embolism

  • Post-stroke recovery

  • Age-related memory impairment and attention deficits

  • Tinnitus and vertigo associated with vascular disorders

  • Retinal and cochlear circulation issues

Pharmacology:

Cereton 5 mg contains Vinpocetine, a semisynthetic alkaloid that:

  • Enhances cerebral metabolism by increasing glucose and oxygen consumption

  • Improves tolerance to cerebral hypoxia

  • Elevates ATP concentration and the ATP/AMP ratio in the brain

  • Increases levels of neurotransmitters like norepinephrine, dopamine, and serotonin

  • Improves cerebral microcirculation by inhibiting platelet aggregation and reducing blood viscosity

  • Selectively increases cerebral blood flow without affecting systemic circulation

Dosage:

  • Tablet form: 1–2 tablets (5–10 mg) three times daily, with the maintenance dose being 1 tablet three times daily.

  • Injection (IM): 20–40 mg daily until symptom improvement is observed (for no longer than 10 days), then switch to oral treatment.

  • IV Infusion: Start with 20 mg in slow drip infusion, increasing to 1 mg/kg body weight over 3–4 days. Continue for 10–14 days, reducing the dose before discontinuation.

Administration:

Take Cereton 5 mg tablets with meals to enhance absorption. Swallow the tablet whole; do not chew or crush.

Interaction:

Cereton 5 mg may interact with anticoagulants like warfarin, potentially affecting prothrombin time. It is chemically incompatible with heparin and should not be mixed in the same syringe.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to Vinpocetine or any component of the formulation

  • Severe ischemic heart disease and severe arrhythmias

  • Pregnancy and lactation
