Prevention and chronic treatment of asthma in adults and adolescents
Relief of symptoms related to seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis
Prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction
Montelukast blocks leukotriene receptors in the lungs and nasal passages, reducing inflammation and bronchoconstriction caused by leukotrienes, leading to better airflow and less allergic symptoms.
Adults and adolescents (15 years and older): 20 mg once daily, usually administered as two 10 mg tablets or as directed by physician.
Should be taken in the evening for optimal effect.
Oral use with or without food.
Tablets should be swallowed whole with water.
Not for treatment of acute asthma attacks.
Minimal drug interactions.
Caution with enzyme-inducing drugs like rifampin, phenytoin, or phenobarbital which may reduce efficacy.
Can be combined with other asthma or allergy medications under medical supervision.
Known hypersensitivity to Montelukast or any excipients.
Common: Headache, dizziness, abdominal pain
Rare but serious: Mood changes, depression, suicidal thoughts (report immediately if observed)
Others: Diarrhea, cough, rash
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed; consult your doctor.
Limited data for lactation; use under medical advice.
