Indications:
LINAPTIN M 500 MG is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially in overweight patients, to improve glycemic control as monotherapy or in combination with other antidiabetic agents.
Pharmacology:
Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production, decreases intestinal absorption of glucose, and improves insulin sensitivity by increasing peripheral glucose uptake and utilization.
Dosage:
Typical starting dose is 500 mg twice daily with meals. Dose may be adjusted based on blood glucose levels, up to a maximum of 2000-2550 mg daily as advised by physician.
Administration:
Take orally with meals to reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Interaction:
May interact with contrast media, diuretics, corticosteroids, and certain blood pressure medications. Inform your doctor about all medications.
Contraindications:
Not recommended in patients with renal impairment, metabolic acidosis, diabetic ketoacidosis, or hypersensitivity to metformin.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and rarely lactic acidosis. Seek medical attention if severe symptoms occur.
