Silofit 8mg is indicated for the treatment of signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), a condition characterized by prostate enlargement leading to urinary difficulties.
Pharmacology:
Silodosin, the active ingredient in Silofit, is a selective alpha-1A adrenergic receptor antagonist. By blocking these receptors in the prostate and bladder, it causes smooth muscle relaxation, improving urine flow and alleviating BPH symptoms.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: The recommended dose is 8 mg orally once daily with a meal.
Renal Impairment: For moderate renal impairment (CrCl 30-50 mL/min), the dose should be reduced to 4 mg once daily with a meal.
Administration: Take the capsule with food to enhance absorption and reduce the risk of side effects.
Interaction:
Co-administration with strong P-glycoprotein inhibitors (e.g., cyclosporine) may increase plasma silodosin concentration. Concurrent use with PDE5 inhibitors can potentially cause symptomatic hypotension. Always inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are taking.
Contraindications:
Silofit 8mg is contraindicated in patients with severe renal impairment (CrCl <30 mL/min), severe hepatic impairment, or known hypersensitivity to silodosin or any component of the formulation.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include retrograde ejaculation, dizziness, diarrhea, orthostatic hypotension, headache, nasopharyngitis, and nasal congestion. If any of these effects persist or worsen, consult your doctor promptly.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Silofit is not indicated for use in women. It is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to lack of safety data.
Therapeutic Class:
Alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist (Selective)
Storage Conditions:
Store at below 30°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children.
