Pharmacology:
Sertraline is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It increases the synaptic concentration of serotonin by inhibiting its reuptake in the presynaptic neurons, resulting in enhanced neurotransmission. This action helps improve mood and reduce anxiety.
Dosage:
Adults: Usually 50 mg once daily initially, may be increased to 100 mg once daily based on response.
Maximum dose: 200 mg/day.
Elderly or hepatic impairment: Lower doses may be required.

Administer orally once daily, preferably in the morning or evening. Can be taken with or without food. Do not stop suddenly; tapering is recommended under medical supervision.
Interaction:
Avoid with MAO inhibitors (risk of serotonin syndrome)
May enhance effects of other CNS depressants
Caution with NSAIDs, anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk)
Can alter plasma concentrations of other drugs metabolized by CYP enzymes
Contraindications:

Concomitant use with pimozide or MAO inhibitors
Not recommended in patients with seizure disorders without close monitoring

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Category C: Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Sertraline is excreted in breast milk, so caution is advised during lactation.
Therapeutic Class:
Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor (SSRI)
Storage Conditions:
