Indications:
Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and chronic stable angina pectoris.
Pharmacology:
Amlodipine is a dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker that inhibits calcium ions from entering vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle cells, causing vasodilation and lowering blood pressure.
Dosage:
Typical dose is 5-10 mg once daily. DILGARD 6.25 MG is a mid-range dose; dose adjustment depends on patient condition and physician’s advice.
Administration:
Orally, with or without food, once daily preferably at the same time each day.
Interaction:
May interact with other antihypertensives, CYP3A4 inhibitors, and simvastatin. Inform your doctor about all medications.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to amlodipine or other dihydropyridines, severe hypotension, cardiogenic shock.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, dizziness, swelling (edema), flushing, and palpitations.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Amlodipine is excreted in breast milk; consult your physician.
