Indications:
SECOMAX 250 mg is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by susceptible bacteria, including:

Pharmacology:
Cefuroxime Axetil is a prodrug that is hydrolyzed in the body to Cefuroxime, a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell lysis and death. It is effective against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms.

  • Children: Dose adjusted based on weight and age (typically 10–15 mg/kg twice daily)

Administration:
Take orally after food to enhance absorption. Swallow the tablet whole; do not crush or chew. Maintain the full course as prescribed even if symptoms resolve early.

Interaction:

  • May reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives

  • Probenecid increases Cefuroxime levels

  • Concomitant use with potent diuretics (e.g., furosemide) may increase risk of nephrotoxicity
Always inform your doctor about any other medicines being taken.
