Indications:
Treatment and prevention of calcium deficiency, osteoporosis, rickets, and osteomalacia. Supports bone health especially in postmenopausal women and elderly.
Pharmacology:
Calcium carbonate is a calcium salt supplement that provides elemental calcium for bone formation and maintenance. Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) enhances intestinal calcium absorption and promotes bone mineralization.
Dosage:
Usually 1-2 tablets daily or as directed by physician. Dosage depends on individual calcium needs.
Administration:
Orally, preferably after meals with water.
Interaction:
May reduce absorption of tetracyclines, quinolones, and bisphosphonates if taken together. Monitor vitamin D levels when used with other vitamin D supplements.
Contraindications:
Hypercalcemia, hypersensitivity to any component, kidney stones with hypercalciuria.
Side Effects:
May cause constipation, bloating, nausea, or hypercalcemia in excessive doses.
