Moxigen 400 mg Tablet is indicated for the treatment of:

  • Acute bacterial sinusitis

  • Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis

  • Community-acquired pneumonia

  • Uncomplicated and complicated skin and skin structure infections

  • Complicated intra-abdominal infections

  • Pelvic inflammatory disease

Pharmacology:

Moxifloxacin is a synthetic, broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic. It exerts its bactericidal effect by inhibiting bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for DNA replication, transcription, and repair.

Dosage & Administration:

  • Acute bacterial sinusitis: 400 mg once daily for 7-10 days.

  • Acute exacerbation of chronic bronchitis: 400 mg once daily for 5-10 days.

  • Community-acquired pneumonia: 400 mg once daily for 7-14 days.

  • Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections: 400 mg once daily for 7 days.

  • Complicated skin and skin structure infections: 400 mg once daily for 7-21 days.

  • Complicated intra-abdominal infections: 400 mg once daily for 5-14 days.

  • Pelvic inflammatory disease: 400 mg once daily for 14 days.

Always follow the dosage prescribed by your healthcare provider.

Interaction:

  • Antacids, sucralfate, multivitamins, and multivalent cations (e.g., iron or zinc): Decrease the absorption of Moxigen.

  • NSAIDs: May increase the risk of convulsions.

  • Warfarin: May enhance the risk of bleeding.

Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or other quinolones.

  • History of tendon disorders related to quinolone use.

  • Pregnancy and lactation (Category C).

Side Effects:

  • Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headache, dizziness.

  • Serious: Tendonitis, tendon rupture, QT interval prolongation.

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any severe side effects.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • Pregnancy: Category C. Use only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.

  • Lactation: Not recommended during breastfeeding.
