Indications:
SETRA 50 mg is indicated for:
Major depressive disorder (MDD)
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
Panic disorder
Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
Social anxiety disorder (SAD)
Pharmacology:
Sertraline is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI) that works by blocking the reuptake of serotonin into presynaptic nerve endings, enhancing serotonergic neurotransmission. This helps improve mood and reduce anxiety.
Dosage:
Typical starting dose: 50 mg once daily
Dose may be adjusted up to 200 mg/day based on clinical response
Elderly or hepatic impairment patients may require lower doses
Administration:
Take orally once daily, with or without food, preferably at the same time each day. Do not stop medication suddenly without consulting a doctor.
Interaction:
Avoid use with MAO inhibitors
Use caution with anticoagulants, NSAIDs, and other serotonergic drugs
Possible interactions with CYP450 metabolized drugs (e.g., diazepam, phenytoin)
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to sertraline or other SSRIs
Concurrent use with MAO inhibitors or pimozide
Caution in patients with seizure history
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, headache, insomnia, dry mouth, fatigue
Less common: Sexual dysfunction, sweating, appetite changes
Rare: Serotonin syndrome, suicidal ideation, hyponatremia
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Category C. Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Sertraline passes into breast milk; use with caution during lactation.
