Famogen is indicated for the treatment of:
Gastric ulcer
Duodenal ulcer
Anastomotic ulcer
Acute stress ulcer
Reflux esophagitis
Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
It is also used in the treatment of acute gastritis and chronic gastritis during its acute exacerbation stage.
Famogen contains famotidine, a histamine H₂-receptor antagonist. It works by completely inhibiting the action of histamine on H₂-receptors of parietal cells in the stomach, thereby reducing basal, nocturnal, and pentagastrin-stimulated gastric acid secretion. The H₂-receptor antagonist activity of famotidine is slowly reversible, as the drug dissociates slowly from the H₂-receptor.
Adults:
Gastric ulcer, duodenal ulcer, anastomotic ulcer, upper gastrointestinal hemorrhage, reflux esophagitis, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: The usual dose is 20 mg twice daily (after breakfast and after supper or before bedtime) or 40 mg once daily at bedtime.
Acute gastritis and chronic gastritis during acute exacerbation: The usual dose is 20 mg twice daily or 40 mg once daily at bedtime, depending on the severity and physician's recommendation.
Administration:
Shake the bottle well before each use.
Measure the prescribed dose using the provided measuring device.
Administer the suspension orally as directed by the physician.
Famogen may interact with certain medications, including:
Antacids: May reduce the absorption of famotidine.
Rifampicin: May decrease the effectiveness of famotidine.
Certain antifungal agents: May increase the risk of side effects.
Always inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking.
Famogen is contraindicated in patients with:
Known hypersensitivity to famotidine or any of its components.
Severe liver impairment.
Pregnancy (Category B) and lactation: Use only if clearly needed and prescribed by a healthcare provider.
Common side effects may include:
Constipation
Diarrhea
Dry mouth
Nausea
Dizziness
Headache
Fatigue
Tachycardia
Increased blood pressure
If any severe side effects occur, discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider immediately.
Pregnancy: Famogen is classified as Category B. Adequate and well-controlled studies in pregnant women have not been conducted. Use during pregnancy should be considered only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus.
Lactation: Famotidine is excreted in human milk. Caution should be exercised when administering famotidine to a nursing woman.
