BLAST 10MG is indicated for:
Prophylaxis and chronic treatment of asthma
Prevention of exercise-induced bronchoconstriction
Relief of symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis (e.g., sneezing, runny or blocked nose, nasal itching)
Montelukast is a selective leukotriene receptor antagonist that blocks the action of leukotriene D4 in the lungs and nasal passages. This reduces inflammation, bronchoconstriction, and mucus secretion, thereby improving breathing and relieving allergy symptoms.
Adults and adolescents (15 years and older): 10 mg once daily, taken in the evening
Should be taken daily even when the patient is asymptomatic for asthma
For allergic rhinitis: can be taken any time of day, with or without food
Take orally with or without food
Should be swallowed whole with water
Do not use for acute asthma attacks—rescue medication (e.g., salbutamol) should be used instead
Montelukast has minimal drug interactions
May be used concurrently with inhaled corticosteroids or antihistamines
Use with caution if taking phenobarbital, phenytoin, or rifampin, which may reduce its effectiveness
Hypersensitivity to Montelukast or any component of the formulation
Common: Headache, abdominal pain, cough, dizziness
Less common: Diarrhea, rash, flu-like symptoms, increased liver enzymes
Rare: Mood changes, agitation, suicidal thoughts (very rare but serious; report immediately to physician)
Pregnancy: Category B — generally considered safe, but consult a physician before use
Lactation: Limited data available; use only under medical supervision
