Indications:
BETACOR is indicated for:
Treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure)
Management of angina pectoris (chest pain)
Treatment of stable chronic heart failure (with reduced ejection fraction)
Pharmacology:
Bisoprolol is a selective β1-adrenergic receptor blocker. It reduces heart rate, cardiac output, and suppresses the release of renin, thereby lowering blood pressure and reducing myocardial oxygen demand.
Dosage & Administration:
Hypertension/Angina: Start with 2.5–5 mg once daily. Dose may be adjusted up to 10 mg.
Heart Failure: Start with 1.25 mg daily; titrate slowly to 10 mg based on tolerance.
Take with or without food; swallow whole with water.
Interaction:
May interact with calcium channel blockers (verapamil, diltiazem), digoxin, clonidine, insulin, and NSAIDs.
Use caution with other antihypertensive drugs.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Bisoprolol
Acute heart failure or cardiogenic shock
Severe bradycardia or heart block
Severe asthma or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
Side Effects:
Common: Fatigue, dizziness, slow heartbeat
Rare: Cold extremities, hypotension, sleep disturbances, depression
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed and prescribed
Bisoprolol may affect fetal growth and neonatal heart rate; caution during lactation
Precautions & Warnings:
Do not stop medication suddenly; taper dose gradually
Monitor blood pressure, heart rate, and ECG
Use with caution in patients with diabetes or thyroid disorders
Therapeutic Class:
Selective beta-1 blocker (cardioselective)
Storage Conditions:
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
