ZEMICEF MAX 20ML is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections in children, including:

Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI): e.g., otitis media.
Lower Respiratory Tract Infections: e.g., bronchitis.
Urinary Tract Infections: e.g., cystitis, cystourethritis, pyelonephritis.
Other infections caused by susceptible microorganisms.

Pharmacology:
Cefixime is a third-generation semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic. It exhibits bactericidal activity against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cefixime is highly stable in the presence of beta-lactamase enzymes, making it effective against organisms resistant to penicillins and some cephalosporins.

Dosage & Administration:

Children over 6 months:
- 6 months to 1 year: 75 mg daily.
- 1 to 4 years: 100 mg daily.
- 5 to 10 years: 200 mg daily.
- 11 to 12 years: 300 mg daily.
Typhoid Fever:
- 15–20 mg/kg/day, divided into two doses, for 7–14 days.
Adults and children over 12 years:
- 200–400 mg daily, as a single dose or in two divided doses.

Administration:

May be taken with or without food.
Shake the bottle well before each use.
Administer the prescribed dose using the provided dropper.

Interaction:

May interact with anticoagulants, increasing the risk of bleeding.
Concurrent use with other antibiotics should be monitored for potential interactions.

Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics.
Caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis.

Side Effects:

Common: Diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain.
Less common: Rash, dizziness, headache.
Rare: Allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Pregnancy: Category B. No proven risk in humans.
Lactation: Cefixime is excreted in breast milk. Caution should be exercised when administered to nursing mothers.
