ZEMICEF MAX 20ML is indicated for the treatment of various bacterial infections in children, including:

  • Upper Respiratory Tract Infections (URTI): e.g., otitis media.

  • Lower Respiratory Tract Infections: e.g., bronchitis.

  • Urinary Tract Infections: e.g., cystitis, cystourethritis, pyelonephritis.

  • Other infections caused by susceptible microorganisms.

Pharmacology:
Cefixime is a third-generation semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic. It exhibits bactericidal activity against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. Cefixime is highly stable in the presence of beta-lactamase enzymes, making it effective against organisms resistant to penicillins and some cephalosporins.

Dosage & Administration:

  • Children over 6 months:

    • 6 months to 1 year: 75 mg daily.

    • 1 to 4 years: 100 mg daily.

    • 5 to 10 years: 200 mg daily.

    • 11 to 12 years: 300 mg daily.

  • Typhoid Fever:

    • 15–20 mg/kg/day, divided into two doses, for 7–14 days.

  • Adults and children over 12 years:

    • 200–400 mg daily, as a single dose or in two divided doses.

Administration:

  • May be taken with or without food.

  • Shake the bottle well before each use.

  • Administer the prescribed dose using the provided dropper.

Interaction:

  • May interact with anticoagulants, increasing the risk of bleeding.

  • Concurrent use with other antibiotics should be monitored for potential interactions.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics.

  • Caution in patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, particularly colitis.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain.

  • Less common: Rash, dizziness, headache.

  • Rare: Allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • Pregnancy: Category B. No proven risk in humans.

  • Lactation: Cefixime is excreted in breast milk. Caution should be exercised when administered to nursing mothers.
