Description
Laxopic 50 ml Oral Solution is a stimulant laxative that contains Sodium Picosulfate 5 mg per 5 ml. It is used to treat constipation and to prepare the bowel for procedures like colonoscopy. The active ingredient works by stimulating the nerve endings in the colon, enhancing peristalsis, and increasing water and electrolyte secretion into the colon, thereby facilitating bowel movements. The recommended dosage for adults is 5–10 ml per day, preferably taken at bedtime. For bowel evacuation before procedures, 10 ml is taken in the morning and again in the afternoon of the day before the examination, often in combination with magnesium citrate. For children aged 4–10 years, the dosage is 2.5–5 ml, and for those over 10 years, 5–10 ml, typically given at night. Laxopic is contraindicated in individuals with ileus, intestinal obstruction, severe abdominal conditions, acute inflammatory bowel diseases, severe dehydration, or known hypersensitivity to Sodium Picosulfate. Common side effects may include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, nausea, and dizziness. Prolonged use should be avoided to prevent electrolyte imbalances.
