TELMIVAS 20 MG is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and for reducing cardiovascular morbidity in patients with a high risk of heart disease, including those with type 2 diabetes and target organ damage. It helps prevent stroke, heart attack, and kidney damage related to high blood pressure.
Pharmacology:
TELMIVAS 20 MG contains Telmisartan, an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). It selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion. This leads to vasodilation, reduced blood pressure, and less strain on the heart. Telmisartan does not inhibit ACE (angiotensin-converting enzyme), so it does not cause a persistent dry cough like ACE inhibitors.
Dosage:

Adults: The usual starting dose is 20–40 mg once daily.

Can be increased up to 80 mg daily based on the patient's response.

May be used alone or in combination with other antihypertensives (e.g., diuretics).

Dose adjustment is usually not required in elderly patients or those with mild renal or hepatic impairment.
Administration:

Take orally, once daily, with or without food.

Try to take the medication at the same time each day.

Do not discontinue without consulting a physician, even if blood pressure improves.
Interaction:

May interact with NSAIDs, reducing antihypertensive effect and potentially harming kidney function.

Use with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements may increase the risk of hyperkalemia.

May enhance the effects of other antihypertensives.

Lithium toxicity risk increases when used concurrently.
Contraindications:

Hypersensitivity to Telmisartan or any component of the formulation.

Pregnancy (especially second and third trimesters)

Severe hepatic impairment or biliary obstructive disorders

Concomitant use with aliskiren in patients with diabetes or renal impairment
