Pharmacology:
PROSTANOR 4 MG contains tamsulosin, an alpha-1 adrenergic blocker. It works by selectively blocking the alpha-1 receptors in the prostate and bladder neck muscles, which are responsible for constricting the urethra. By relaxing these muscles, tamsulosin improves urinary flow and reduces symptoms associated with BPH, such as difficulty urinating and frequent urges to urinate.
Dosage:
The typical recommended dosage of PROSTANOR 4 MG is one 4 mg capsule taken once daily, approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day to minimize side effects.
Dosage adjustments should be made based on the doctor's recommendations.
Always follow the prescribed dosage and do not exceed the recommended dose without consulting your doctor.
Administration:
PROSTANOR 4 MG should be taken orally, with a glass of water. The capsule should be swallowed whole and not be crushed, chewed, or opened. It is best taken after a meal to reduce the risk of side effects.
Interaction:
PROSTANOR 4 MG may interact with other alpha blockers, such as doxazosin, and antihypertensive medications, leading to an increased risk of low blood pressure.
It may also interact with CYP3A4 inhibitors, such as ketoconazole, and antifungal agents, which could increase the concentration of tamsulosin in the blood.
Inform your healthcare provider of all other medications you're taking to avoid any potential interactions.
Contraindications:
PROSTANOR 4 MG is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to tamsulosin or any of the ingredients of the capsule.
It should not be used in patients with severe liver or kidney impairment, orthostatic hypotension, or severe heart disease unless prescribed by a doctor.
It is also contraindicated in patients with a history of prostate cancer unless specifically directed by a physician.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include dizziness, headache, nasal congestion, fatigue, nausea, and ejaculation disorders.
Serious side effects may include severe hypotension (low blood pressure), fainting, swelling of the face or lips, and allergic reactions such as rash or itching.
If any of these serious side effects occur, seek immediate medical attention.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: PROSTANOR 4 MG is not intended for use during pregnancy and should not be taken by women.
Lactation: It is unknown whether tamsulosin is excreted in human breast milk. As a precaution, it is recommended that nursing mothers avoid taking this medication.
Precautions & Warnings:
Hypotension: PROSTANOR 4 MG may cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, especially when rising from a sitting or lying position. This may result in dizziness or fainting.
Surgery: Inform your surgeon that you are taking this medication before undergoing cataract or glaucoma surgery, as it can affect the pupil's ability to constrict.
Kidney & Liver Function: Patients with kidney or liver problems should use this medication with caution and under close medical supervision.
Therapeutic Class:
