Description
Laxopic 100 ml Oral Solution is a stimulant laxative that contains Sodium Picosulfate 5 mg per 5 ml. It is used to treat constipation and to prepare the bowel for procedures like colonoscopy. The active ingredient works by stimulating the nerve endings in the colon, promoting peristalsis, and increasing water and electrolyte accumulation in the colonic lumen. This dual action facilitates bowel movement and softens stool. The recommended dosage for adults is 5–10 mg as a single dose, usually taken at bedtime. For bowel evacuation before procedures, 10 mg is taken in the morning and again in the afternoon of the day before the examination, often in combination with magnesium citrate. For children aged 4–10 years, the dosage is 2.5–5 mg, and for those over 10 years, 5–10 mg, typically given at night. Laxopic is contraindicated in individuals with ileus, intestinal obstruction, severe abdominal conditions, acute inflammatory bowel diseases, severe dehydration, or known hypersensitivity to Sodium Picosulfate. Common side effects may include abdominal cramps, diarrhea, nausea, and dizziness. Prolonged use should be avoided to prevent electrolyte imbalances.
