Description
BrimoPres is a combination eye drop containing 0.2% brimonidine tartrate and 0.5% timolol maleate, manufactured by Popular Pharmaceuticals Ltd. in Bangladesh. This formulation is indicated for the management of elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Brimonidine tartrate, an alpha-2 adrenergic receptor agonist, reduces aqueous humor production and increases uveoscleral outflow, thereby lowering IOP. Timolol maleate, a non-selective beta-blocker, further decreases IOP by reducing aqueous humor formation. The combined action of these two agents provides a rapid onset of action, with peak ocular hypotensive effect typically observed within two hours of administration. The recommended dosage is one drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily, approximately 12 hours apart. Patients should avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface, including the eye, to prevent contamination. If multiple eye medications are prescribed, they should be used at least 5 minutes apart. Common side effects may include allergic conjunctivitis, eye irritation, and a burning or stinging sensation upon instillation. BrimoPres should be used with caution in patients with cardiovascular or respiratory conditions, and its use during pregnancy or lactation should be considered only if the potential benefits justify the potential risks. Patients wearing soft contact lenses should remove them before instilling the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinsertion. It is essential to follow the prescribed dosage and consult a healthcare professional before starting or adjusting treatment.
