Indications:

UBICARE 60 MG is primarily used for the treatment of:

  • Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): It is effective in treating infections of the urinary tract, including the kidneys, bladder, and urethra, caused by susceptible bacteria.

  • Bacterial Infections: UBICARE 60 MG can also be used for treating other bacterial infections, especially those affecting the respiratory system, gastrointestinal system, and soft tissues.

  • Prevention of UTIs: It may also be prescribed for the prevention of recurrent urinary tract infections, particularly in individuals who are prone to frequent UTIs.

Pharmacology:

UBICARE 60 MG contains Nitrofurantoin, an antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial growth. Nitrofurantoin acts by interfering with bacterial enzymes and disrupting bacterial protein synthesis. It is particularly effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria that commonly cause urinary tract infections. At higher concentrations, it is bactericidal (kills bacteria), while at lower concentrations, it is bacteriostatic (prevents bacterial growth).

Dosage:

  • For Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs), the typical adult dose is 60 mg once or twice daily, depending on the severity and the doctor's recommendation.

  • For Prevention of UTIs, a lower dose may be used over a longer duration as prescribed by your healthcare provider.

Always follow the dosage instructions provided by your healthcare provider and complete the full course of treatment even if you start feeling better before finishing the medication.

Administration:

  • Take UBICARE 60 MG orally, with food, to enhance absorption and reduce the risk of gastrointestinal upset.

  • Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.

  • It is recommended to take the medication at the same time every day to help remember your dose.

  • Do not crush or chew the tablet.

Interaction:

  • Antacids containing magnesium may reduce the absorption of Nitrofurantoin. It is advisable to separate doses of these medications by at least 2 hours.

  • Probenecid, sulfonamides, and certain antibiotics may interact with Nitrofurantoin, affecting its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects.

  • Always inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.

Contraindications:

  • Severe Renal Impairment: Do not use if you have severe kidney dysfunction or renal failure, as this can lead to the accumulation of Nitrofurantoin in the body.

  • Hypersensitivity: Do not take if you are allergic to Nitrofurantoin or any other components of the medication.

  • Pregnancy (last trimester): It should be avoided during the last trimester of pregnancy due to potential risks to the fetus.

  • Infants under 1 month: Not recommended for use in infants under 1 month old.
