Description
Doxofyl 100 mg/5 ml Syrup is a bronchodilator medication containing doxofylline, a methylxanthine derivative. It is primarily used to treat respiratory conditions such as bronchial asthma, bronchospasm, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary diseases with a spastic bronchial component. Doxofylline works by selectively inhibiting phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE-4), leading to the relaxation of bronchial smooth muscles and improved airflow. Unlike theophylline, doxofylline has a reduced affinity for adenosine A1 and A2 receptors, which may contribute to its better safety profile. Additionally, it is reported to inhibit platelet-activating factor (PAF) and the generation of leukotrienes, further aiding in reducing inflammation and bronchoconstriction.
