TORAMAX 60 MG is primarily used for:
Edema (fluid retention) associated with heart failure, kidney disease, or cirrhosis of the liver.
Hypertension (high blood pressure), often as part of a multi-drug therapy regimen.
Heart failure, by helping the body remove excess fluid, reducing the workload on the heart.
Other conditions involving fluid buildup, such as certain liver diseases.
It helps to reduce swelling and improve heart function by eliminating excess fluid from the body.
TORAMAX 60 MG contains Torsemide, which is a loop diuretic and NSAID. As a diuretic, Torsemide works by inhibiting sodium and chloride reabsorption in the kidneys, increasing urine production, and thus reducing fluid retention and swelling in conditions like heart failure. As an NSAID, Torsemide inhibits the production of prostaglandins, which are chemicals that cause inflammation and pain, providing relief from swelling and discomfort.
Edema or Fluid Retention: The typical starting dose is 20 mg to 40 mg once daily, which may be increased up to 80 mg per day based on the patient's condition and response.
Hypertension: 10–20 mg once daily, in combination with other antihypertensive medications if necessary.
Heart Failure: Dose adjustments are made based on the severity of symptoms and patient tolerance.
Follow the doctor’s instructions carefully regarding the dosage and frequency of administration.
Take TORAMAX 60 MG orally with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
It is important to take this medication at the same time each day for optimal effect.
ACE inhibitors, angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), and other diuretics may increase the risk of kidney problems when taken with Torsemide.
NSAIDs can reduce the effectiveness of diuretics, and combining Torsemide with other NSAIDs may increase the risk of kidney damage and gastrointestinal bleeding.
Lithium levels may increase when taken with Torsemide, which could lead to toxicity.
Ensure that you inform your doctor about all the medications and supplements you are taking to avoid harmful interactions.
Severe kidney impairment (anuria).
Severe liver disease (particularly cirrhosis with ascites).
Hypersensitivity to Torsemide or other sulfonamide derivatives.
Electrolyte imbalances, particularly low potassium (hypokalemia) or sodium (hyponatremia), should be corrected before using Torsemide.
Common side effects include:
Dizziness
Headache
Low blood pressure (hypotension)
Dehydration or excessive thirst
Electrolyte disturbances (low potassium, sodium, or magnesium)
Gastrointestinal upset (nausea, vomiting)
Serious side effects include:
Kidney dysfunction
Liver dysfunction
Gastrointestinal bleeding
Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
If any serious side effects, such as muscle cramps, confusion, or difficulty breathing, occur, contact a healthcare provider immediately.
Pregnancy: Torsemide should be used during pregnancy only if the benefits outweigh the risks. It is classified as a Category C drug, meaning its safety during pregnancy has not been well established.
Lactation: Torsemide is excreted into breast milk, and it is recommended to consult with a healthcare provider before using this medication while breastfeeding.
