Pharmacology:
PROSTANOR 8 MG contains tamsulosin, a selective alpha-1 adrenergic antagonist. Tamsulosin works by blocking the alpha-1 receptors in the smooth muscles of the prostate and bladder neck. This relaxation of the muscles allows the urine to pass through more easily, alleviating symptoms of BPH such as urinary retention and flow issues.
Dosage:

The usual dose for PROSTANOR 8 MG is one 8 mg capsule taken once daily, typically after a meal, to minimize side effects.

The medication should be taken at approximately the same time each day.

Do not exceed the prescribed dose without consulting your healthcare provider.
Administration:
PROSTANOR 8 MG should be taken orally, with a full glass of water. The capsule should be swallowed whole, without chewing, crushing, or opening it. It is best taken after the same meal each day to improve absorption and reduce the risk of side effects.
Interaction:

PROSTANOR 8 MG may interact with other alpha-blockers, such as doxazosin, prazosin, and terazosin, leading to an increased risk of low blood pressure.

It may also interact with medications that affect liver enzymes, such as CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole) and antifungals, potentially increasing tamsulosin blood levels.

Blood pressure medications (e.g., ACE inhibitors, diuretics) may also increase the risk of hypotension. Always inform your doctor about all other medications you're taking.
Contraindications:

PROSTANOR 8 MG is contraindicated in patients who are allergic to tamsulosin or any of its ingredients.

It should not be used in patients with severe liver or kidney impairment, orthostatic hypotension (a condition of low blood pressure when standing), or prostate cancer unless prescribed by a physician.

Caution is recommended in patients with a history of heart disease or stroke.
Side Effects:

Common side effects include dizziness, headache, nasal congestion, fatigue, nausea, and sexual dysfunction (e.g., abnormal ejaculation).

Serious side effects include severe hypotension (low blood pressure), fainting, swelling of the face or lips, and allergic reactions (rash, itching).

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Pregnancy: PROSTANOR 8 MG is not intended for use during pregnancy and should not be taken by women.

Lactation: It is unknown whether tamsulosin is excreted in human breast milk. It is advised to consult a doctor before taking this medication during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:

Hypotension: Tamsulosin can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, leading to dizziness, fainting, or lightheadedness, especially when rising from a sitting or lying position. Take caution when changing positions.

Surgery: If undergoing surgery (especially cataract surgery), inform your surgeon that you are taking this medication as it may affect the ability of your pupils to constrict.
