Description
Doxofyl 400 mg Tablet is a bronchodilator medication containing doxofylline, a methylxanthine derivative. It is primarily used to treat respiratory conditions such as bronchial asthma, bronchospasm, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), and pulmonary diseases with a spastic bronchial component. Doxofylline works by inhibiting phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE-4), leading to the relaxation of bronchial smooth muscles and increased airflow, thereby alleviating symptoms such as shortness of breath and wheezing. Unlike theophylline, doxofylline has a reduced affinity for adenosine A1 and A2 receptors, which contributes to its improved safety profile. Additionally, doxofylline has anti-inflammatory effects, inhibiting platelet-activating factor (PAF) and leukotriene generation, further helping to reduce inflammation and bronchoconstriction.
