Description
LINAMET 2.5/500 is prescribed for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults, particularly when diet and exercise alone do not provide adequate glycemic control. This combination therapy leverages the complementary mechanisms of action of Linagliptin and Metformin. Linagliptin, a DPP-4 inhibitor, enhances insulin secretion and reduces glucagon release in a glucose-dependent manner, while Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production, reduces intestinal glucose absorption, and improves insulin sensitivity. Together, they help lower blood glucose levels without causing significant weight gain. The recommended starting dose is 2.5 mg of Linagliptin and 500 mg of Metformin taken twice daily with meals to minimize gastrointestinal side effects. Dosage adjustments should be made based on individual efficacy and tolerability. Patients should be monitored for potential side effects, including gastrointestinal disturbances and, rarely, lactic acidosis.
