VASOCOR 2.5 MG is primarily used for:
Hypertension (high blood pressure): This medication is effective in managing high blood pressure, reducing the risk of complications like stroke and heart attack.
Angina (chest pain): VASOCOR 2.5 MG can also be prescribed for the relief of chest pain caused by insufficient oxygen supply to the heart muscles.
Certain heart conditions: It is sometimes used for the management of other cardiovascular conditions like arrhythmias, as it helps regulate the heart’s rhythm.
VASOCOR 2.5 MG contains Amlodipine, a calcium channel blocker. Amlodipine works by inhibiting the entry of calcium into the muscle cells of the heart and blood vessels. This causes the blood vessels to relax and dilate, which lowers blood pressure and reduces the heart's workload. The medication also improves blood flow to the heart, making it useful in the treatment of angina.
For hypertension, the usual starting dose is 2.5 mg to 5 mg once daily. The dose may be increased based on the patient's response and the doctor's recommendation.
For angina, the typical dose is 2.5 mg to 10 mg once daily.
Always follow your doctor’s prescription and never adjust your dose without consultation.
Take VASOCOR 2.5 MG orally with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water.
Take the medication at the same time every day to help remember your dose.
Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Grapefruit and grapefruit juice should be avoided, as they may increase the concentration of Amlodipine in the blood, leading to an increased risk of side effects.
Other antihypertensive medications, such as ACE inhibitors or beta-blockers, may increase the blood pressure-lowering effects of VASOCOR.
CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, erythromycin) may increase the blood levels of Amlodipine, so the dose may need adjustment.
Always inform your healthcare provider of any other medications, including over-the-counter drugs and supplements you are taking.
Severe hypotension (low blood pressure): VASOCOR should not be used if the patient is experiencing severely low blood pressure.
Hypersensitivity: Do not use if you are allergic to Amlodipine or any other components of this medication.
Severe liver disease: VASOCOR should be used with caution in individuals with liver impairment. Dose adjustment may be necessary.

Pregnancy: VASOCOR 2.5 MG should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary and prescribed by a doctor. It is classified as category C, meaning it could have harmful effects on the fetus in certain cases.
Lactation: It is not known if Amlodipine is excreted in breast milk, but caution should be used when taking this medication while breastfeeding. Consult your healthcare provider for advice.
