Description
Olmevas AM 5/40 mg is a fixed-dose combination tablet containing two antihypertensive agents: Olmesartan Medoxomil (5 mg) and Amlodipine Besilate (40 mg). This combination is primarily used to manage high blood pressure (hypertension), either alone or in conjunction with other antihypertensive medications. Olmesartan Medoxomil is an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) that works by blocking the effects of angiotensin II, a hormone that causes blood vessels to constrict, thereby relaxing blood vessels and lowering blood pressure. Amlodipine Besilate is a calcium channel blocker that inhibits the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to vasodilation and reduced blood pressure. Together, these medications provide a complementary mechanism of action to effectively control blood pressure. The typical starting dose is one tablet (5 mg Olmesartan / 40 mg Amlodipine) taken once daily. Dosage adjustments may be made based on individual patient response and tolerability.
