RAZOSIN ER 5 MG is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). It helps relax blood vessels to lower blood pressure and eases urinary flow in patients with BPH.
Pharmacology:
RAZOSIN contains Prazosin, an alpha-1 adrenergic antagonist (alpha-blocker). It works by blocking alpha-1 receptors in the smooth muscles of the blood vessels and the prostate, causing the blood vessels to dilate, which reduces blood pressure, and helps relax the prostate muscles, improving urinary flow.
Dosage:
The typical dosage of RAZOSIN ER 5 MG is one tablet daily. Your doctor may adjust the dosage depending on the severity of your condition and your response to the medication. Always follow the prescribed dosage and schedule.
Administration:
RAZOSIN ER 5 MG should be taken orally, with or without food. For best results, take the medication at the same time every day. Do not crush or chew the tablet; swallow it whole.
Interaction:
RAZOSIN may interact with other antihypertensive medications, diuretics, and medications for erectile dysfunction.
It may also interact with drugs that affect liver enzymes.
Always inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including over-the-counter medications and herbal supplements.
Contraindications:
RAZOSIN is contraindicated in individuals who have a known hypersensitivity to Prazosin or any of its components.
It should be used cautiously in individuals with low blood pressure (hypotension), heart problems, or a history of fainting.
RAZOSIN is not recommended for use in pregnant women unless necessary and prescribed by a doctor.
Side Effects:
Common side effects of RAZOSIN include dizziness, headache, fatigue, and palpitations. Serious but rare side effects may include hypotension (low blood pressure), fainting, or allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, lips, or throat. Seek immediate medical attention if any severe side effects occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: RAZOSIN should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed, and only under the guidance of a healthcare provider. Animal studies suggest that Prazosin can pass through the placenta, but there are limited human data.
Lactation: It is not known whether RAZOSIN is excreted in breast milk. It should be used cautiously in breastfeeding mothers, and only if the benefits outweigh the potential risks.
Therapeutic Class:
Alpha-1 Adrenergic Blockers.
Storage Conditions:
Store RAZOSIN ER 5 MG at room temperature, away from moisture, heat, and light.
Keep out of reach of children.
